Welcome to Fifth Grade!
Dear Parents and Fifth grade students,
We will have an outstanding year in fifth grade together, as we prepare for middle school success. Positive leadership skills and self-directed learning skills will be emphasized throughout the year.
This summer, please read good fit books daily. The Redmond Public Library has incredible reading programs and reading incentive programs! Also, the OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Book) list can be found at the library or online. Students wishing to join a book battle team should start reading the OBOB book list.
Math Connects has an excellent website with math fact games, power point lessons, tutorials, songs, and practice. This would be a great resource to both review fourth grade concepts and pre-teach the fifth grade lessons. http://www.mhschool.com/math/mathconnects/grade5/sg5c1lesson1.html
Khan Academy is another great free website that is an excellent math tutor. It is set up like a video game with points and awards, but students who faithfully use Khan Academy usually work well above grade level in math.
You can check out former class web pages with photo galleries for sneak previews of fifth grade projects and fun events. http://www.redmond.k12.or.us/145920924181154970/site/default.asp
Have a wonderful, safe summer! Please read at least 30 minutes daily and spend about 30 minutes on the Khan Academy or Math Connects website. This will help your transition to fifth grade be successful.
