What Does It Take to be a SMART Reader?

What does it take to be a SMART reader?
We ask volunteers to make a minimum commitment of one hour per week to read with two students for a half an hour each.  If you are interested in additional volunteer hours, please inform our school coordinator April Streeter when she contacts you.  Alternatively, you can split your volunteer time with a friend.
Volunteers read the same hour each week during the school day to the same two students throughout the school year, from October through May.  Reading is done on a one-on-one basis in a supervised area.  The Vern Patrick SMART program is located in the library.  You will also be expected to attend a training before you begin to volunteer which usually only takes 20-30 minutes of your time.
